We're open — and if you've found us this early, thank you for being here at the start. Before you pick your first jar, here's the quick story of why The Paste Co. exists, what makes a paste different from a sauce, and how to get the most out of your first one.
Why we started The Paste Co.
This began the way a lot of things do: standing in a supermarket aisle, turning a jar around to read the back. The front said all the right things. The ingredients list told a different story — seed oils near the top, refined sugar not far behind, then a run of additives and thickeners that had nothing to do with flavour and everything to do with shelf life.
It kept happening. Sauce after sauce, the same pattern. We weren't after anything fancy. We just wanted to cook a good dinner on a weeknight without accepting a list of ingredients we'd never choose to use at home. So we set out to build the alternative we couldn't find: clean ingredients, real flavour, and nothing padding it out. No seed oils, no refined sugars, no artificial or unnecessary additives.
Why a paste, not a sauce
Most jars on the shelf are finished sauces, which means they're mostly water and fillers with a bit of flavour stirred through. You're paying for the water. We went the other way and made a concentrated paste — the flavour base, and nothing else.
The clever part is what happens next. A paste isn't one dish; it's the start of many. What you stir it into changes what it becomes:
- Cream — a rich, restaurant-style sauce.
- Yoghurt — a lighter sauce, a quick marinade or a cooling dip.
- Sour cream — thick, tangy dips and spreads.
- Mayo — an instant sandwich, burger or wrap sauce.
- Olive oil — a loose dressing or marinade.
Learn those five mix-ins and one jar quietly covers dinner, lunch and everything in between. That's the idea behind everything we make: one jar should do more than one job.
Meet the first three
We've launched with three pastes we cook with constantly.
Butter Chicken Paste
Best stirred through cream for a rich, proper butter chicken sauce — brown your protein, add the paste, pour in the cream and simmer. It also works as a curry base or a marinade, and it's happy with any protein, from chicken to paneer to chickpeas.
Garlic Herb Paste
A creamy, savoury all-rounder for the meals you make again and again — creamy garlic salmon, a quick garlic pasta. Stir it into yoghurt, mayo or sour cream and it becomes a garlic sauce or dip in seconds. This is the everyday jar you'll reach for without thinking.
Chipotle Paste
The smoky, bold one, best mixed with sour cream for a proper chipotle dip or drizzle — made for wraps, burgers, tacos and loaded bowls. Thin it with olive oil for a marinade, or fold it into mayo for a smoky sandwich sauce with real backbone.
How to use your first jar
If you're new to cooking with a paste, keep it simple and try your jar a couple of different ways in the same week — it's the fastest way to feel how versatile it is.
- For a quick dinner: warm a spoonful in a pan, add your protein, then stir through cream (or sour cream for the Chipotle) to build a sauce. Serve with rice, pasta or in a wrap.
- For a dip or dressing: mix a little paste into yoghurt, mayo or sour cream, taste, and add more until it's where you want it.
- For a marinade: loosen the paste with a splash of olive oil, coat your chicken, fish, halloumi or veg, and leave it as long as you've got before cooking.
A few things worth knowing: because the paste is concentrated, start with less and build up — a little goes a long way. Match the mix-in to the meal (cream for rich, yoghurt or sour cream for light, olive oil or mayo for dressings and marinades). And once it's open, keep it in the fridge and use a clean spoon each time so it stays good for longer.
